Cyanos: Ice, Wind and Fire

Introducing a new feature here on the Screw Pile! Stories!

Well, yes, yes, I have had a tab and a link to my good friend Mr. Fox’s epic Carpathian Stories for some time, however I have now decided to go where I have never been before and have a try at writing my own story.

While the style, format and feel is very similar to the Carpathian stories, it is not ‘fan-fiction’ as such – more ‘parallel universe’. Yes, there is space stuff, with a planet, a space-ship or two, and a cast of adorable anthromorphic characters.

So. Will it be any good? Will I get laughed off the interwebs? No idea. However I am going to give it a good go.

So without further ado and unnecessary fanfare – may I present:

Cyanos – Ice, Wind and Fire

Any comments or feedback are of course very welcome.

Motuihe – There and Back, Again

Well yes folks we are out on the briny again with The Skipper; this time a day sail to Motuihe Island. It was a bit blowy choppy over and back but still a great day with new friends – spotify tunes, yacht rock, and classic road trip play lists kept us humming along.

Spent a pleasant evening back on the mooring with chicken wraps for dinner. Woke up to a calm morning and a lazy start to the day… coffee and up and go (liquid box breakfast) – still deciding what to do at 10 am… no rush its Father’s day!

Rangitoto Island

This weekend I sailed with a friend to Rangitoto Island in the Waitemata Harbour, Auckland.   It is one of Auckland’s many extinct volcanoes, and it’s youngest, just 600 years.

The island is home to the former site of a WWII controlled mine base, basically they stored mines there, that were used to protect the entrances to the Waitemata Harbour and approaches to Auckland from the threat of invasion during WWII.

The site is heavily contaminated with asbestos left over from the roofing and building materials that they used at that time.    Efforts have been made to for a number of years to try and get the site cleaned up. A tender was raised by the Department of Conservation in March 2018 for asbestos removal works, so hopefully in the future we can look forward to the site being cleared of the hazardous material.

Pfft… Pfft… Is this thing on?

Ah yes, there we are!   The Screwpile still standing strong, on its screwed into the rock foundations since… um… I think 2012.

I know I have made more than one vauge promise over the last – few – years – to well update the broken links in the SPEX   (may the prop pox of a thousand camels be upon you Dropbox for messing with the public download folder, which was working perfectly fine until you faffed with it.)  Well, anyway I am pleased to announce that finally…  finally I have now updated all the links so that they actually point somewhere useful, like…

Drum roll please…

The SPEX on the STEX!

Oh… well to be completely honest that will basically bring up the complete content list for all of my lots over at Simtropolis – but good old ST has been going for a pretty long time now and last time I looked it is still going pretty solidly strong.

It could be reasoned that this site isn’t really needed anymore, – yes it did serve a very useful service in the intrim period after the EA Simcity.com site was closed and before all those important Maxis files were uploaded in one place on Simtropolis.

But… hey I am kinda fond of this little site and I have also just paid the mapping, domain name fee again which will keep us good for another two years at least.

As well as updating the broken links, I have been in and had a good tidy up of the pages, created a couple of new ones – in particular there is a new Download Simcity 4 page.   No, its not free, but the price is pretty reasonable and it comes all patched and ready to go.

I am also fixing up some of the images that I had hosted at Photobucket – again a while back they decided that you can only now upload 250 images for free – um well I have over 5000 images on my Photobucket so unless I want to pay for one of their reasonably pricey plans, all my PB images now have their lovely (not) watermark all over them.

Also updated are the New Carpathia tabs, which now includes the current Carpathia IV and Tales stories.   Mr. Fox still uses Simcity 4 images in his stories for terrestrial and city scenes, so entirely worthy of a menu tab here on the ‘pile.

Maxis Files: Dropbox Links

Hi folks!   Long time no update .. yes I’m still alive, just not active in the Simcity community these days.

However I am still committed to keeping this little site alive so that the good folks in the Simcity community can still find those Maxis files that are getting harder to find.

Dropbox have recently changed how the public sharing folder works, and unfortunately this has caused all my download links to break.   Rest assured I will try to get them all fixed however it will take some time to update them all.

I have also been in contact with Dirk the Webmaster at Simtropolis, and he is looking to also put these files on the STEX.

Cheers and as always…   have fun.
