Overview
Jaak goes to live with his father Altai, a mine engineer, in the remote valley region of Cyanos following the sudden death of his mother in a car accident. He initially struggles to adapt to the much simpler lifestyle and surroundings he finds himself in.
His proclivity for potty-mouthed language has been known to get him into trouble when surprised or stressed.
Although he does not at first consider himself an engineer, his natural curiosity about how things work becomes apparent when he converts an old steam donkey engine into a power generator for his cabin with his friend and mentor, Layan.
His best friends are Dieter, a German Shepherd Hunde, and Tag, another Neko-Human snow-leopard. Thoughtful and quietly analytical, Jaak often acts as the steady centre of the trio. While Dieter tends toward in-your-face friendliness and Tag toward impulsive, adventurous instinct, Jaak naturally pauses to understand what is happening before deciding what to do.
He is one of the three friends tasked with carrying the cyan lode-stones to the orbital TET stations.
In a story driven by powerful technology and ancient planetary forces, Jaak embodies the qualities of observing, questioning, and trying to understand the world — even when the answers are not immediately clear.
Even when he does not fully understand everything, he instinctively recognises when something is important. His quiet confidence becomes more visible as the story progresses.
